111-year-old former Red Army soldier and founding captain Min Jingde passed away

This is a report from The Paper’s reporter, who learned from relevant departments that Comrade Min Jingde, an old Red Army veteran and a major general in the founding of the nation, passed away in Nanjing on January 11th, 2025 due to illness, at the age of 111.

According to public information, Min Jingde was born in Shangcheng County, Henan Province in 1915 and joined the Red Army in 1930. He became a member of the Communist Party of China in 1935. During the Agrarian Revolution War period, he successively served as a soldier of the Red Fourth Army and the Red Twenty-fifth Army, as well as a monitor for communications. He participated in the fight against the “encirclement and suppression” in the revolutionary base areas of Hubei-Anhui and opened up the revolutionary base areas of Hubei-Shaanxi for the Long March.

During the Anti-Japanese War, he served as a ranker in the police and communication platoon of the 344th brigade of the Eighth Route Army 115th Division, a communication captain of the army and a chief of the communication section of the Third Brigade of the New Fourth Army. He participated in anti-sweeping operations against anti-revolutionary forces.

During the War of Liberation, he served as a chief of staff of the 62nd group of the 21st brigade of the Fourth Independent Army in Northeast China, as a vice commander of the 63rd brigade of the Seventh Army and as a commander of the 395th group of the 132nd division of the 44th army in the 15th army group of the Fourth Wild Military Force. He participated in the battles of Liaoning-Jinjin and Pingjin Campaigns.

After the founding of New China, he successively served as a chief of staff of the 3rd brigade of the Fourth Army in China People’s Liberation Army, as a chief of staff of the Third Naval Aviation School and as a vice president of the Second Naval Aviation School. He was awarded with the Order of Military Merits with two stars in 1988.
