On January 7th, 2025, at 9:05 Beijing time, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck in Tibet’s Xigaze City and Dingri County, causing significant casualties and damage, with numerous houses collapsing. The rescue operation is currently ongoing on the spot.
The earthquake has drawn the attention of the Shanghai people. In order to help the victims in the disaster area resume normal production and living as soon as possible, and to fully support the relief efforts and post-disaster reconstruction work for the affected people, the Shanghai Charity Foundation, with the guidance and support of the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, has jointly launched a special action for “Providing Assistance with Love to Xigaze and Dingri in Earthquake Relief” with Bloomberg on January 7th. The action welcomes social donations of money and goods.
As of 5:00 PM on January 7th, the Shanghai Charity Foundation has received donations of 1.9 million yuan from various social organizations and individuals, as well as over 200,000 yuan worth of goods. Among them, the Songjiang District Branch of Shanghai Charity Foundation has raised 600,000 yuan in emergency funds; Shanghai Zhipin Public Welfare Foundation (BOSS Direct Recruitment) has donated 500,000 yuan; Shanghai Charity Foundation Huizhou Public Welfare Special Fund has donated 200,000 yuan; and a local Shanghainese family has donated 300,000 yuan as well as over 200,000 worth of sleeping bags (1,100 in total).
The Shanghai Charity Foundation has donated the first batch of relief funds of 1.9 million yuan to the Dingri County Charity Association before 6:00 PM on January 7th, and relevant materials will be transported to the disaster area successively.
The Shanghai Charity Foundation stated that it will actively communicate with local relevant departments and charity organizations according to the progress of earthquake relief work to ensure the timely and effective use of donations. At the same time, the Shanghai Charity Foundation will disclose the project progress and publicize information in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
