Badminton Olympic champion Huang Yaqiong Assumes the Honorary President of Quzhou Vocational and Technical College Yaqiong Sports Institute
The 30-year-old badminton Olympic champion Huang Yaqiong recently returned to her hometown Quzhou, Zhejiang Province, to serve as the honorary dean of the Yaqiong Sports College at Quzhou Vocational and Technical College.
On the morning of January 6th, the opening ceremony of the Yaqiong Sports College at Quzhou Vocational and Technical College was held at the school’s sports hall. Huang Yaqiong, Olympic champion, world badminton mixed doubles “grand slam” athlete, and Quzhou city ambassador, was hired as the honorary dean of the college and unveiled its signboard.
According to Quzhou Vocational and Technical College, Huang Yaqiong expressed her intention to work hand in hand with all teachers and students in the future. With champion classrooms as an important focus, she will actively participate in curriculum research and student skills competitions to effectively improve teaching quality and level. She will also actively carry out diverse sports exchange activities to attract more students to participate in sports and cultivate high-quality technical skills and talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical education, aesthetics, and labor. Additionally, she will be committed to promoting badminton events, allowing more people to understand and participate in badminton sports, and jointly promoting the development of sports industry.
Pan Xiaohui, deputy director of the Quzhou People’s Congress Standing Committee, expressed hope that Dean Huang Yaqiong could fully leverage her influence and driving force by actively building talent training platforms and channels, supporting and leading students to participate in various competitive competitions, practical activities, and social services to cultivate more sports talents for Quzhou. It is hoped that Quzhou Vocational College will further deepen sports work, with promoting students’ healthy growth and comprehensive development as the starting point and endpoint of its work. This will guide students to establish a lifelong cognition of sports and enable them to take their favorite sports events and lifelong sports habits out of school and into society.
“Olympic champion Huang Yaqiong is the pride of Quzhou and an example for young people.” Xu Xushi, secretary of the Party Committee at Quzhou Vocational and Technical College pointed out that today we are establishing the Yaqiong Sports College based on the Cultural Tourism College and hiring Teacher Huang Yaqiong as its honorary dean. The aim is to promote the Olympic spirit and champion spirit, further promote the better and faster development of the school, and cultivate more high-quality talents. He hopes that the Yaqiong Sports College can fully leverage Teacher Yaqiong’s resource advantages to further strengthen teaching style and learning style construction. Additionally, it is expected to integrate the Olympic champions’ spirit of fighting for glory for their country, unity, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence into teacher team building and student ideological and political work. The college also hopes to further deepen education reform, actively explore new models and methods of physical education, continuously improve teaching quality, strengthen external exchanges and cooperation, expand channels of cooperation between government, schools, industries, and enterprises to enhance the school’s teaching level and social influence.
Born in Quzhou, Zhejiang in February 1994, Huang Yaqiong won the gold medal for badminton mixed doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics with her partner Zheng Siwei in August this year. In January of this year, Huang Yaqiong announced her retirement from the national team.
