Another railway station in Shanghai opened for business today in the morning — the Railway Xinzhuang Station.

At 6:43 am on January 5th, the S1602 train from Jinshanwei to Xinzhuang stopped at the Xinzhuang Railway Station, marking the official opening of another new Shanghai railway station – the Xinzhuang Railway Station. This is the first train to arrive at the newly opened Xinzhuang Railway Station. After the train stopped, passengers got off and took out their phones to record this moment.

After the Xinzhuang Railway Station was put into use, passengers can transfer to Metro Line 1 and Line 5 at Xinzhuang Station through the platform of Xinzhuang Urban Complex, further integrating the Jinshan Railway into Shanghai’s and even the Yangtze River Delta’s integrated transportation system. Meanwhile, the Xinzhuang Railway Station will further promote economic and cultural exchanges between Shanghai’s main southwestern suburbs and outer suburbs and neighboring cities, improving the convenience and efficiency of Xinzhuang sub-center’s external transportation.

Mr. Huang, who lives near Xinzhuang in Shanghai, came specially to try it out and was the first passenger to buy a ticket at the Xinzhuang Railway Station. A transportation enthusiast left Pudong at about 5 o’clock in the morning and arrived at Xinzhuang Station to take the first train to Jinshan. A Ms. Zhu from Henan arrived in Shanghai at about 5 o’clock today and originally planned to take a small train at Shanghai South Railway Station, but accidentally took a wrong train and ended up at Xinzhuang Station. She said, “I didn’t expect to catch the first train at Xinzhuang Station, it’s a good sign!”

At about 6:43 am, the first wave of passengers arrived at the Xinzhuang Railway Station. Under the guidance of staff, they exited the station in an orderly manner. The station will adopt an “enter from above and exit from above” pattern for passenger traffic. To address the challenge of coordinating incoming and outgoing passengers, the station has adjusted the layout of the waiting room by adding movable partitions to separate the north and south sections. Passengers can enter from the south and exit from the north. The waiting room is equipped with 3 security scanners and 2 single-entry doors in a cabin style. To improve passenger flow during peak morning and evening hours, ticket gates are designed with 8 entries and 12 exits. Additionally, 2 wide-channel gates are set up at both entrance and exit gates for passengers with bulky luggage.

After the national railway map was adjusted on January 5, Jinshan Railway will operate 38 pairs of trains daily. Xinzhuang Station will operate 19.5 pairs of trains daily for Jinshan Railway, including 17 pairs of trains stopping at Xinzhuang Station and Jinshanwei Station, one pair to Chetun, and 1.5 pairs of trains heading to Shanghai South Railway Station with stops at Xinzhuang Station. The last train from Xinzhuang Station to Jinshanwei Station is the S1633 train, which departs at 21:49 and arrives at Jinshanwei Station at 22:45.

The passenger organization of Xinzhuang Station adopts an “upper entry and upper exit” mode. To solve the problem of organizing passenger traffic in the same direction, the station has adjusted the layout of the waiting room from an operational management perspective by increasing movable partitions to divide the north and south sections of the waiting room. Passengers can enter from the south and exit from the north. The waiting room is equipped with 3 security scanners and 2 one-way doors in a cabin style. To improve passenger flow during peak times, ticket gates are designed with 8 entries and 12 exits. The station also features four modes of ticket scanning for passengers taking Jinshan Railway, including purchasing paper tickets along the Jinshan Railway line, using Shanghai public transportation cards (physical cards, mobile virtual cards, NFC), or mobile apps such as Shanghai Traffic Card APP, Cloud Flash Payment APP (both requiring mobile app downloads), WeChat Pay, and Alipay.

“The opening of Xinzhuang Station effectively improves connectivity with southern Shanghai, provides strong support for the construction of urban integrated transportation hubs, and enables more citizens to enjoy efficient and convenient railway services,” said Yu Yongle, deputy director of Minhang District Transportation Committee. “In the early stages, we led efforts to open subway transfer corridors, set up signs inside and outside transportation hubs, developed emergency management plans and contingency plans, managed non-motorized vehicle parking at north and south squares, and ensured convenient services for railway passengers through cooperation with relevant bus and taxi companies. In the first two days after opening, public security, firefighting, emergency medical response, emergency management, transportation, Xinzhuang Town, and other units entered the temporary command center at the station
