Multiple kindergartens in Puyang, Henan, display “food safety codes” to view real-time processing video and audio of school cafeterias.
Recently, the gates of multiple kindergartens in Puyang, Henan, have installed “food safety codes” and posted announcements from market supervision departments to encourage the reporting of major illegal behaviors related to “school meals.”
According to a post on the WeChat official account “Puyang Market Supervision” on January 2, the “food safety code” of a school is a dedicated QR code for food safety in schools. It is a new measure taken by the Puyang Market Supervision Bureau and the Education Bureau to consolidate the achievements of “school meal” food safety governance and to mobilize parents and the public to supervise school food safety.
The article stated that each school’s “food safety code” implements a “one-school, one-code” system. The public can directly scan the QR code to view real-time audio and video of the school cafeteria’s kitchen processing, allowing for immediate supervision of school food safety. When parents view the audio and video content and find any issues, they can click a button to report and make complaints to the market supervision department or the local education department, realizing the function of scanning and reporting kitchen issues with just one click. At the same time, in order to mobilize the enthusiasm of the public to supervise, the Market Supervision Bureau has included seven items, such as the use of non-food substances and raw materials in school cafeterias, food delivery companies related to schools, and collective meal delivery enterprises, into the scope of reward for reporting.
As of December 31, 2024, the installation of “food safety codes” has been completed at the gates of five schools including Puyang Experimental Kindergarten. The display boards for food safety codes for other schools are currently being produced quickly, and once completed, they will be installed in all schools at the soonest possible time across the city.
