Chen Yuhang, a soon-to-“post-80s” generation Ph.D. student from Tsinghua University who currently serves as the deputy secretary of the Huizhou Municipal Party Committee, has been appointed acting mayor of Huizhou city.

According to the WeChat official account of “Huizhou Daily”, on the afternoon of January 3rd, the 26th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress of Huizhou City, Guangdong Province was held. The meeting, upon voting, decided to appoint Chen Yuhang as the Deputy Mayor of Huizhou Municipal People’s Government and appointed Chen Yuhang as the Acting Mayor of Huizhou Municipal People’s Government.

Previously, on December 24th, 2024, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee Organization Department announced the pre-appointment publicity of provincial-level cadres. Among them, Chen Yuhang, the current deputy secretary of Huizhou Municipal Party Committee, was nominated as a candidate for the mayor of a prefecture-level city.

Public information shows that Chen Yuhang is a male, Han nationality, born in Liaoyuan, Jilin in January 1979. He holds a Ph.D. in literature and is a member of the Communist Party. After graduating from the Chinese Department of Peking University as an undergraduate in 2001, Chen Yuhang went to Tsinghua University to pursue his master’s and doctoral degrees. He graduated from Tsinghua University with a Ph.D. in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature in 2008 and served as an assistant researcher at Tsinghua University.

Chen Yuhang has long worked in Guangdong. He has served as the district chief of Dinghu District in Zhaoqing City, secretary of the district committee, member of the Standing Committee and secretary general of Shantou Municipal Committee, and deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee Office. He was appointed as the deputy secretary of Huizhou Municipal Party Committee in December 2023.

Previously, Wen Jinrong who held the position of deputy secretary of Huizhou Municipal Party Committee and mayor resigned in October 2024 and took on a new role as the secretary of Jining City in Shandong Province.
