“Stay committed after retirement and remain in the party even after leaving the position”. Thirteen advanced individuals who are retired cadres were honored in Shanghai.
On December 31, 2024, the national advanced collective and individual recognition ceremony for retired cadres will be held in Beijing. Four advanced collectives and 13 advanced individuals from Shanghai will be recognized.
Ji Boming is one of the recognized advanced individuals and also one of the two Shanghai representatives attending the recognition ceremony on the 31st. Before retiring, he was the deputy director of the NPC Sub-committee of Feng Xian District in Shanghai. After retiring in May 2017, he served as the deputy director of the Guanshengwei Committee of Feng Xian District, secretary of the Party branch of retired cadres of the NPC of Feng Xian District, honorary director of the “Sunset Red” lecture group, etc. As the secretary of the Party branch, he built a team with specific responsibilities, a sound mechanism, and focused on implementation. He emphasized learning and activities to make the branch’s organizational life vibrant. The Party branch of retired cadres of the NPC of Feng Xian District was among the first to be named “Shanghai Model Party Branch for Retired Cadres” and a “Demonstration Site for Party Branch Construction in Feng Xian District”. Meanwhile, he always adhered to the belief that “to ensure the Red Flag flies high for generations, we must care for the next generation”. His efforts and leadership have led the Guanshengwei Committee of Feng Xian District to be recognized as the “National Advanced Unit for Caring for the Next Generation”, “National Advanced Unit for Youth Law Education”, etc.
On May 27th, 2023, at a primary school in Hukou County, Anhui Province, a group of children gathered on the playground. Some covered their faces and wept, while others embraced their parents tightly or shared stories about what was happening around them with their parents. The scene was part of a public welfare event named “‘Enterprise’ Navigation to the Future – Care for Left-behind Children Hand in Hand”, organized by Ji Boming, who was known as “Grandpa Ji” by the children. For three years during the pandemic, these left-behind children had limited or no contact with their parents who worked in Shanghai and other cities. This made Ji Boming feel heartbroken and concerned about these children becoming isolated islands. To solve this problem, he came up with a bold idea: bring their parents working in Shanghai back to their children in Anhui for a special “Children’s Day” gift. This initiative not only helped these workers overcome their worries about their families but also provided a boost to private enterprise development and created momentum for promoting unity in Feng Xian’s private enterprise community.
In October of the same year, Ji Boming and other comrades traveled over 2600 kilometers to Wuxi County, Yili Town, Miaodai Village in Dali, Yunnan Province, to launch a project to improve English listening and speaking examination venues and construct a red education base at Jili Middle School. He led and promoted the efforts of the “Five Olds” (experienced educators) and corporate (商会) Guanshengwei Committee to gather resources and love from all sectors of society. In 2023, he co-organized the “Hundred Enterprises Assisting Hundred Youngsters” program with the local Federation of Trade Unions, providing financial support to outstanding young people in need for three consecutive years. He also promoted the implementation of opinions on establishing a Guanshengwei Committee by business associations to extend care for the next generation to more areas and fields. His public lectures on theories and policies for young comrades have been deeply welcomed by audiences of nearly ten thousand people.
The saying “Retirement does not fade, and one leaves the party but does not leave its spirit” is not just applicable to Ji Boming but also to the other 12 advanced individuals who are also adding warmth to the party’s cause through their actions. These individuals embody the unremittingly diligent spirit and unwavering dedication of retired cadres.
Li Junjie, a former secretary of the CPC Working Committee in Changning District and former chairman of the district’s political consultative conference, has received more than ten national honors such as “National Advanced Individual for Retired Cadres”, “The Most Beautiful Family in China”, etc. After retiring, he actively supported and participated in youth Marxist reading circles, guiding young generations to learn from Marxist perspectives. Over the past two decades, he has delivered nearly 500 lectures to party members and youth audiences with nearly 50 thousand listeners. Today, Li Junjie continues to tell stories about the Chinese Communist Party in various community organizations in Changning District.
Chen Kai Xian, a famous drug chemist who has once served as the dean of Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and other positions in China’s scientific community, continues to focus on biopharmaceutical development and cultivate young research teams after retirement. He has been pioneering in innovative fields such as big data and artificial intelligence-based drug research
