Xing Qiuhan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and outstanding expert in the field of solid rocket technology, passed away at the age of 95.

Pioneer News reported that from the Fourth Research Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, excellent party member of the Communist Party of China, loyal communist fighter, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and outstanding expert in the field of solid rocket technology in China, Comrade Xing Qiuheng, former dean of the Fourth Research Institute of the Aerospace Industry Corporation, passed away at 2:40 am on December 29, 2024 in Xi’an due to illness. He was 95 years old.

Comrade Xing Qiuheng

Born in Shengzhou, Zhejiang in September 1930, Xing Qiuheng joined the Communist Party of China in December 1954. He graduated from the Department of Artillery Engineering of the Military Engineering College of the People’s Liberation Army in 1957. In 1958, he joined the Rocket Engine Research Office of the Fifth Department of the Ministry of National Defense. He then served as a technician and group leader in the Fourth Research Room of the First Branch of the Fifth Department of National Defense, as well as a group leader and deputy director of the Solid Rocket Engine Design Institute. He also served as deputy director and director of the 41st Research Institute of the Seventh Machinery Industry Department, dean of the Fourth Research Institute of the Aerospace (Aviation) Industry Department, director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Fourth Aerospace Research Institute, and consultant to the Science and Technology Committee of China Aerospace Science and Technology Group and China Aerospace Industry Corporation. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003.

Comrade Xing Qiuheng has long been committed to research on solid rocket propulsion technology in China. He has presided over the development, production, and testing of solid engines for multiple national key strategic and tactical weapons. He has solved a series of major technical problems, promoted the development of multiple key strategic and tactical models, and made major contributions to China’s aerospace solid rocket technology field as one of the main pioneers and outstanding contributors in turning solid missiles from dreams into reality.
