Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education: Encourages universities to fully utilize artificial intelligence in areas such as homework grading.

On December 10, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education announced the “Action Plan for the Development of Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Professional Construction in Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions” (hereinafter referred to as the “Action Plan”) on its official website.

The Action Plan states that in response to the Ministry of Education’s initiative to empower education with artificial intelligence, it aims to integrate AI concepts, knowledge, methodologies, and technologies deeply into the professional structure of higher education. It seeks to promote reforms and innovations in curriculum materials, teaching methods, internship practices, teaching management, and evaluation mechanisms, with the goal of creating a first-class “Artificial Intelligence +” professional system.

Among the sections addressing the “Deepening of ‘Artificial Intelligence + Higher Education’ Application Scenarios,” the Action Plan emphasizes enhancing AI-assisted teaching for educators. This includes encouraging higher education institutions to fully utilize artificial intelligence technologies in areas such as lesson preparation, teaching guidance, assignment grading, and research analysis. It aims to assist teachers in improving teaching plans, increasing preparation efficiency, innovating teaching methodologies, and incorporating intelligent thinking, digital literacy, and AI tools into teaching strategies. The plan also emphasizes personalized instruction based on students’ learning progress and encourages intelligent, creative, and immersive teaching formats.

Earlier, on March 28 of this year, the Ministry of Education launched the initiative for AI-enabled education, introducing four specific actions aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence to facilitate integrated teaching and learning, enhance digital literacy and skills nationwide, develop AI models specifically for educational purposes, and standardize the scientific ethics of AI usage.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the four actions include: the launch of an “AI Learning” section on the National Smart Education Public Service Platform, inviting experts to discuss AI, organizing distinguished teachers to teach about AI, and encouraging both teachers and students to learn about AI; promoting the intelligent upgrade of the National Smart Education Public Service Platform to support personalized lifelong learning for all, launching intelligent tools to increase classroom interaction, and making education services more accessible for employment, exams, and study abroad; implementing demonstration actions for the application of large AI models in the education system, facilitating the transition of these models from classrooms to practical applications; and incorporating artificial intelligence into international digital education exchanges, creating a platform for international communication in digital education, and providing a Chinese solution for AI education.
