According to Xinhua News Agency, the Central Economic Work Conference was held in Beijing from December 11 to 12. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President of the country, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the meeting and delivered an important speech.

The conference identified nine key tasks to focus on by 2025. These include: increasing the implementation of regional strategies to enhance regional development vitality; leveraging the synergistic effects of regional coordinated development strategies, major regional strategies, and principal functional area strategies to actively cultivate new growth poles; improving the innovation capabilities and radiating effects of economically advantageous regions; supporting major economic provinces to take on significant responsibilities while encouraging other regions to adapt to local conditions and showcase their strengths; deepening industrial cooperation among the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions; and vigorously developing the marine economy and bay area economy.

For instance, according to the WeChat public account “Southern Daily,” on the afternoon of December 13, the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee held a meeting to thoroughly convey and study Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Central Economic Work Conference and the spirit of the conference, as well as his important speeches at the Central Politburo meeting and the symposium with non-Party figures, and to discuss the implementation measures for the province. The meeting was chaired by Provincial Party Secretary Huang Kunming.

The meeting emphasized the need to deeply understand the overall requirements, policy orientations, and key task deployments for next year’s economic work as outlined by Xi Jinping and the Central Committee, to earnestly implement the various requirements of the Central Economic Work Conference, to steadfastly promote high-quality development, and to firmly shoulder the political responsibility of “major economic provinces must truly take on significant responsibilities.” It called for advancing the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, leveraging the comprehensive advantages of the three regions, and jointly promoting “hard connectivity” in infrastructure and “soft connectivity” in regulatory mechanisms, thereby driving the province to further deepen reforms and expand high-level opening-up.
