Taiwan Media: Renowned Writer Qiong Yao Passes Away at the Age of 86

According to multiple Taiwan media reports, renowned writer Qiong Yao committed suicide and died at her home in Danshui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, at around 1:22 PM on December 4th. She was 86 years old.
TVBS News cited a statement from Qiong Yao’s son, saying that his mother had left a suicide note and instructed her secretary to check on her at home during lunchtime. When the secretary entered Qiong Yao’s home in Danshui District, she realized something was wrong and found that Qiong Yao had ended her life in her room. Although the secretary immediately called 119 for assistance, by the time paramedics arrived, Qiong Yao had already stopped breathing and had no heartbeat, showing clear signs of death. Therefore, she was not rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Public information shows that Qiong Yao, whose real name is Chen Zhe, was originally from Hengyang, Hunan. She was a well-known writer, screenwriter, film and television producer, and lyricist. Many of her novels have been adapted into movies or TV dramas, including the “Princess Huanzhu” trilogy, “A Dream of Red Mansions”, and the “Three Tales of Plum Blossom” series – “Scarlet Heart”, “The Spirit of the Sword”, and “Water Margin” among others.
