Former Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) Wu Po-hsiung Holds Diamond Wedding Banquet, Blue Camp “Bigwigs” Gathered to Congratulate

On November 29, former Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung held a diamond wedding banquet to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Dai Mei-yu. Several prominent figures from the Blue Camp, including former Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, attended the banquet to congratulate the couple.

According to island media reports such as the China Times News Network, Wu Poh-hsiung and his wife hosted over 80 tables at the Sheraton Taipei Hotel on the evening of the 29th to celebrate their diamond wedding. During the banquet, Wu Poh-hsiung announced donations of 10 million New Taiwan Dollars to four organizations, including the Kuomintang Think Tank and the Liver Disease Prevention and Treatment Academic Foundation.

The report stated that attendees included Ma Ying-jeou, former head of Taiwan’s legislative body Wang Jin-pyng, Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun, former New Party Chairman Yu Mu-ming, current head of Taiwan’s legislative body Han Kuo-yu, Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan-an, New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi, Taoyuan Mayor Zhang Shanzheng, Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan, and several Kuomintang legislative representatives.

After the event began, a documentary about the love story of Wu Poh-hsiung and his wife was played. In his speech, Wu Poh-hsiung expressed that they had grown up together since childhood, knowing and cherishing each other. Now, as they celebrate their diamond wedding after six decades together, their hearts are filled with gratitude. With a deeply grateful heart, he made donations to several organizations, hoping to inspire others to follow suit.

Public information shows that Wu Poh-hsiung started his political career early and was one of the local elites promoted by Chiang Ching-kuo during his administration. Since being elected as a Taiwan provincial legislator at the age of 28, he has served in various positions, including Magistrate of Taoyuan County, Director of the Taiwan Provincial Monopoly Bureau, Mayor of Taipei, Head of Taiwan’s Interior Department, Member of the Executive Yuan, Head of the Taiwan Leader’s Office, Secretary-General, Vice Chairman, Chairman, and Honorary Chairman of the Kuomintang.

During the banquet, Ma Ying-jeou said that Wu Poh-hsiung had held important positions in the past and was someone he looked up to and learned from. He was very grateful for Wu Poh-hsiung’s past guidance. When he was the leader of Taiwan, Wu Poh-hsiung represented the Kuomintang in visiting the mainland, establishing the direction of cross-strait peace and development, and making outstanding contributions that were evident to all.
