On November 28, according to a report by a Hong Kong-based media outlet, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, the award-winning actor who recently received an honorary doctorate from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, will also be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Founded in 1984 and located in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts is the only institution in Hong Kong dedicated to nurturing performing arts talents. The Academy offers bachelor’s degrees and practice-oriented master’s programs, covering various fields such as Chinese opera, dance, drama, film and television, music, and stage and production arts. Its educational approach emphasizes reflecting Hong Kong’s multiculturalism, integrating Chinese and Western cultures, and promoting interdisciplinary learning. It is a practice-oriented drama academy where “teaching leads to creation, and creation stems from experience.”

According to a report by China News, during a degree award ceremony held on November 23, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology awarded Tony Leung an honorary doctorate in humanities. Alongside Tony Leung, Jen-Hsun Huang, the founder of NVIDIA, was also awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering. Previous public reports stated that the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology confers honorary doctorates on distinguished individuals to recognize their significant achievements and contributions to society.

During his speech at the ceremony, Tony Leung shared the secrets to becoming a good actor. He said that firstly, one should approach each project as a beginner, which keeps things fresh. Secondly, strive to perform satisfactorily in each project and be determined to do better next time. Lastly, when opportunities arise, give it your best shot.

The citation praised Tony Leung for portraying countless roles over the years, bringing the diverse facets of humanity to the screen and touching audiences worldwide. In 2023, he received the Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival, becoming the first Asian actor to win this honor and affirming his legendary status in the film industry.
