The Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site, China’s first commercial space launch site, is currently fully preparing for its inaugural launch mission.
According to reports, on November 27, Feng Fei, the provincial party secretary, conducted an investigation in Wenchang on the preparation status of the inaugural launch mission at the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site and presided over a symposium. Feng Fei visited the No. 1 and No. 2 launch pads, testing workshops, and the measurement and control building, gaining a firsthand understanding of the construction and operational preparation status of the launch site and pads. He also visited and extended greetings to frontline staff, thanking them for their diligent efforts and selfless dedication towards the inaugural mission.
“The inaugural launch mission of the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site carries a glorious mission and significant responsibility. I hope everyone can strengthen their belief in victory, adopt a rigorous and pragmatic scientific attitude to meticulously implement various work measures, and ensure the success of the inaugural launch without any mishaps,” Feng Fei pointed out at the symposium. He pointed out that in the early stages, they overcame various difficulties such as tight schedules, heavy tasks, high difficulty, strict requirements, and extensive coordination. They adhered to high-level planning, high-standard design, high-efficiency promotion, and high-quality completion, accelerated various preparation work, and laid a solid foundation for the success of the inaugural launch. According to previous reports by CCTV News, unlike the Jiuquan, Taiyuan, and Xichang Satellite Launch Centers, the Wenchang Commercial Launch Site is geographically close to the equator with a low latitude, providing a wider range of launch directions and higher launch efficiency for rockets. The Hainan International Commercial Space Launch Center plans to achieve regular launches in 2024.
According to Guo Qiang, the deputy party secretary of the Hainan International Commercial Space Launch Center, in order to meet the increasing demand for satellite networking, both launch pads at the Hainan International Commercial Space Launch Center are designed for 16 launches per year, which will result in high launch efficiency once the launch capability is formed. Experts stated that the inclusion of commercial space in the government work report for the first time has brought new development opportunities to the commercial space sector, and commercial space has great potential as an important economic growth engine.
