Wang Gang, Director of the Science Popularization Department of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, stated at the meeting that the publication of this series will enhance the public service capacity and social influence of science popularization in the capital, providing strong support for the development of “science popularization in Beijing”. As the home of scientific and technological workers in the capital, the Beijing Association for Science and Technology will strive to build science popularization platforms for medical workers and provide a broader stage for excellent science popularization books.

Zhao Guoguang, Dean of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, expressed that the “Popular Science Series of the National Medical Center for Neurological Diseases” not only embodies the hard work and wisdom of the compilation team but also marks an important step in the field of neurological disease science popularization. It represents the mission and responsibility that Xuanwu Hospital, as the National Medical Center for Neurological Diseases, has always upheld, serving the people through medical science popularization and contributing to the promotion of national health.

The meeting introduced that neurological diseases have a high incidence rate and impose a significant burden on families and society. Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University has gathered numerous medical experts in the field of neurology to focus on the practical needs of patients and their families as well as clinical experience to jointly compile the “Popular Science Series of the National Medical Center for Neurological Diseases”. This fills the gap in China’s science popularization books specifically targeting common neurological diseases and has been selected as a key publication project in the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Publishing.

Hao Junwei, Vice Dean of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, introduced at the meeting that the popular science series consists of eight volumes, including “Scientific Response to Stroke”, “Scientific Response to Dizziness”, “Scientific Response to Headache”, “Scientific Response to Sleep Disorders”, “Scientific Response to Alzheimer’s Disease”, “Scientific Response to Parkinson’s Disease”, “Scientific Response to Epilepsy”, and “Scientific Response to Rare Neurological Diseases”.

Based on research on the public’s demand for and understanding of brain health knowledge, as well as high-frequency questions raised by patients and their families during medical treatment and care, the popular science series has designed “500 Common Questions” about neurological diseases. The series adopts a presentation mode combining text, images, and videos, as well as a compilation method combining Q&A and storytelling. Each volume begins with a comic introduction, accompanied by expert-interpreted short science popularization videos. The content covers six parts: disease concept, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, care, and prevention, aiming to enhance public awareness and understanding of neurological diseases, strengthen health consciousness, and improve the public’s ability to prevent neurological diseases.
