Ministry of Public Security: 910 Cases of Environmental Pollution Crimes in the Yangtze River Basin Investigated and Handled in 7 Months, with 2,920 Suspects Arrested

Public Security Organs Achieve Remarkable Results in Regional Battle Against Environmental Pollution Crimes in the Yangtze River Basin. On November 19, The Paper learned from the Ministry of Public Security that since March of this year, the Ministry has organized public security organs in 11 provinces and cities along the river and the Yangtze River Shipping Police to carry out a seven-month regional battle against environmental pollution crimes in the Yangtze River Basin. A total of 910 cases of environmental pollution crimes have been filed and investigated, with 2,920 criminal suspects arrested.
The Ministry of Public Security has incorporated the regional battle against environmental pollution crimes in the Yangtze River Basin into the national summer public security crackdown and rectification campaign and the “Kunlun 2024” special action as a key initiative. It has supervised 18 major cases, strengthened overall planning and promotion in conjunction with relevant departments, and made concerted efforts to fight overall battles, tough battles, and collaborative battles. The public security organs along the river have been organized to closely monitor prominent crimes such as severe ecological environment destruction and food security hazards, continuously innovate strategies and methods for precise, deep, large-scale, and collaborative crackdowns, adhere to the principle of opening up with crackdowns, promote governance through crackdowns, and successfully solve more than 600 environmental pollution cases such as the illegal dumping of general industrial solid waste in Hechuan, Chongqing, more than 190 cases of environmental protection online monitoring data falsification such as the illegal discharge of excessive sewage by a company in Quzhou, Zhejiang, more than 20 cases of providing false documentation such as the issuance of false environmental monitoring reports by an environmental technology group company in Nanjing, Jiangsu, and more than 40 cases of agricultural land pollution such as the illegal discharge by an industrial company in Jiangxi, thereby comprehensively strengthening the whole-chain governance of environmental pollution crimes. In their work, public security organs have focused on key industries, key targets, and key behaviors, strengthened线索(clue) investigation and analysis, improved their ability to dynamically perceive environmental crimes, and firmly grasped the initiative in combating environmental pollution crimes.
