On November 18, Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, visited the China Building Technology Expo. He emphasized the need to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important directives on housing and urban construction, empowering China’s construction sector through technological innovation. Li highlighted the importance of building safe, comfortable, green, and intelligent homes, as well as promoting a new model for real estate development to better meet the high-quality housing needs of the people.
The China Building Technology Expo, themed “Empowering a Better Life with Technology, Leading Chinese Construction through Innovation,” is currently taking place in Beijing. During his visit, Li toured the exhibition hall, inspecting model rooms for newly constructed quality houses and renovated old ones, as well as newly designed rural residential products. He stressed that the current development of housing in China is shifting from “availability” to “quality.” The focus should be on enhancing residents’ living standards and happiness, considering factors such as functionality, quality, and experience. It is essential to address the diverse needs of various demographic groups, including elderly-friendly and child-friendly requirements, and to adapt housing construction to local conditions. This includes strengthening standards, leveraging technology to build high-quality new homes, and employing scientific renovations to upgrade old houses.
During his inspection, Li examined model green smart residential products that integrate “housing, vehicles, and networks,” as well as photovoltaic walls. He listened to presentations on new technologies such as搬运机器人 (transport robots) and空中造楼机 (aerial construction machines) and inquired in detail about housing design, construction techniques, costs, and supporting services. Li pointed out that the application of advanced technologies, including the new generation of information technology, new materials, new energy, and equipment manufacturing, is driving a revolution in construction and energy. He called for strong efforts in promoting technological innovation and making significant advancements in green, intelligent, and industrialized transformations, thereby enhancing the overall levels of design, construction, and maintenance and fostering high-quality development in the real estate and construction industries.
While viewing exhibitions related to the historical preservation and urban renewal projects such as the Jianguo East Road in Shanghai and the modular “originally dismantled and rebuilt” quality homes on Huapi Factory Hutong No. 8 in Beijing, Li acknowledged that urban renewal is a crucial task currently facing urban development, with enormous potential for growth. He emphasized the importance of combining livelihood improvement with expanded domestic demand, enhancing cooperation across various sectors, promoting innovative planning, improving standards and norms, and increasing policy support for quality housing construction. Li underscored the need to focus on renovation projects in older urban communities, urban villages, and dilapidated housing to improve living environments. He also stressed the importance of listening to and respecting public opinions during urban renewal processes, enhancing historical and cultural preservation, building harmonious cities, and sharing a better quality of life.
