Taiwan Media: Renowned Writer Qiong Yao Passes Away at the Age of 86

According to multiple Taiwanese media reports, renowned writer Qiongyao passed away at her home in Danshui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, at around 1:22 PM on December 4th after taking her own life. She was 86 years old.

The TVBS news network quoted Qiongyao’s son, stating that his mother had left a suicide note and instructed her secretary to check on her at home during lunchtime. When the secretary entered Qiongyao’s home in Danshui District, she realized something was wrong and found that Qiongyao had ended her life in her room. Although the secretary immediately called 119 for assistance, when paramedics arrived at the scene, Qiongyao had already stopped breathing and had no heartbeat, showing clear signs of death, so she was not transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Public records show that Qiongyao, whose real name was Chen Zhe, was originally from Hengyang, Hunan. She was a well-known writer, screenwriter, film and television producer, and lyricist. Many of her novels have been adapted into movies or TV dramas, including the “Princess Huanzhu” trilogy, “A Dream of Red Mansions”, and the “Three Tales of Plum Blossom” series – “Scarlet Heart”, “The Phantom Lover”, and “Water Margin” among others.
