On the evening of November 20, a netizen from Hunan posted a video alleging that two men dressed in uniform were riding motorcycles without helmets and going against traffic, raising questions about their adherence to regulations. The individuals were suspected to be traffic police, prompting concerns from the public.
The video, which has since been deleted, shows a large freight truck parked by the roadside, accompanied by a construction warning sign. A person dressed in a traffic police uniform is seen standing in the middle of the road. At the same time, two individuals in reflective vests, presumed to be traffic officers, are riding motorcycles without helmets; instead, they are wearing wide-brimmed white hats. The passenger on the back is seen holding what appears to be a speed detection device.
In the background, a male voice can be heard saying, “Traffic police don’t wear helmets, yet they keep telling us to wear them?”
The netizen who posted the video commented, “Tonight, I saw two uniformed individuals without helmets riding in the wrong direction. I’m not sure if they are from the traffic police. We all need to follow the law and promote civility.”
The video was reportedly filmed at the “Zhonghua Petroleum City South Gas Station” in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. The two uniformed individuals were indeed seen going against traffic on the road. On the morning of November 21, the video was removed by the uploader, and attempts to contact them for further details were unsuccessful.
On the same day, a reporter reached out to the Daxiang Traffic Police Brigade, where staff stated, “We were not aware of this incident and will verify the situation.”
Regarding whether the actions of the traffic police riding motorcycles without helmets and going against traffic violated regulations, the staff from Daxiang Traffic Police Brigade said they could not provide an answer. When contacted, the Shaoyang City Traffic Police Detachment confirmed, “It is certainly inappropriate for traffic police to ride motorcycles against traffic and without helmets. We have heard that the issue raised in the viral video is being handled by the publicity department.”
