Advancing Towards a New Stage of Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace

Since the inaugural World Internet Conference settled permanently in Wuzhen, Zhejiang in 2014, representatives from government departments, international organizations, and leading internet companies from over a hundred countries and regions have gathered in Wuzhen annually. Over the past decade, the Wuzhen Summit has become the largest and highest-level internet conference held in China, welcoming more than ten thousand domestic and international guests and hosting over a hundred events, making it a premier platform for showcasing cutting-edge global internet technologies.

In July 2022, the founding meeting of the World Internet Conference was held in Beijing, transforming the annual international meeting into an international organization with a permanent establishment, marking a significant leap forward for the conference.

Ren Xianliang, Secretary-General of the World Internet Conference: “Since the establishment of the World Internet Conference as an international organization in July 2022, the number of members has continued to grow. As of October 2024, there are over 170 members from more than 30 countries around the world.”

The decade of the World Internet Conference also coincides with a period of rapid development for the internet in China. Today, China has become:

  • The world’s largest 5G network
  • The world’s largest number of internet users
  • The world’s largest online retail sales
  • The world’s highest mobile payment penetration rate
  • The world’s largest number of top-level domain names
  • The world’s largest number of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)

China’s internet infrastructure has achieved leapfrog improvements, benefiting more citizens with accessible, affordable, and high-quality information services.

The 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit has introduced several highlights, including the establishment of the “World Internet Conference Outstanding Contribution Award” and the “Internet Light” Expo, among other brand activities.
