Pudong, Shanghai: The regional GDP expected to exceed 1.73 trillion yuan by 2024

The fifth session of the Seventh People’s Congress of Pudong New Area in Shanghai was opened on the afternoon of January 8 at the Pudong Urban Planning and Public Art Center. Li Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the district party committee, attended the meeting. Wu Jincheng, deputy secretary general of Shanghai Municipal Government, deputy secretary of the district party committee and district chief, delivered a report on the work of the government on behalf of Pudong New Area People’s Government.

Wu Jincheng stated that in the past year, Pudong New Area has mainly achieved the following six aspects of work: stable growth with continued effort in strengthening; high-level reform and opening up with deepening; significant enhancement of international resource allocation; accelerated construction of a modern industrial system; more resilient high-quality urban construction; and increasingly improved livelihood services at home.

In the past year, Pudong’s economic and social development has been generally stable, steady with progress, and improved in quality, with positive factors accumulating and increasing; the economy has recovered towards improvement, new productive forces have shown bright spots, the consumer market has released vitality, and social security has been solid and effective. It is expected that the regional GDP will exceed 1.73 trillion yuan, the total industrial output value at above designated sizes will reach 1.32 trillion yuan, the revenue from social services at above designated sizes will exceed 1.2 trillion yuan, and general public budget revenue will reach 130.87 billion yuan, while fixed asset investment in the whole society will exceed 350 billion yuan.

Wu Jincheng said that this year is not only the closing year of the “14th Five-Year Plan” but also the 35th anniversary of Pudong’s development and opening up. Pudong will strive to be the backbone of the economy, the pioneer in reform, and a benchmark for improving people’s livelihoods.

Taking into account various factors, the main expected targets for Pudong New Area’s economic and social development in 2025 are: regional GDP growth by more than 5%, industrial value-added growth by 3%, general public budget revenue growth by 2%, stable and forward progress in fixed asset investment in the whole society, and synchronization of residents’ per capita disposable income growth with economic growth. The energy consumption per unit of GDP will further decline, and the main pollutant emission reduction will meet the requirements of the city.

To achieve these goals, Pudong New Area will focus on the following nine aspects this year: strengthening policy measures to stimulate new drivers of high-quality development; implementing major national strategies to enhance the leadership of reform and opening up; taking scientific and technological innovation as a lead to cultivate new productive forces; improving construction quality to create new vitality in urban space; building new advantages for rural revitalization to enhance urban-rural integrated development support; promoting the co-promotion of cultural undertakings and industries to enhance Pudong’s cultural soft power; strengthening ecological environmental construction to accumulate sustainable development with green and low-carbon development as the backbone; deepening co-governance by multiple subjects to enhance urban resilience and security capabilities; optimizing the supply of public services to solidify social security support.
