Shanghai officials assisting Tibet will be fully on duty to participate in the rescue operation, organizing the allocation of related materials to Tibet through the night directly to the Tibet Autonomous County of Dingri.
At 9:05 on January 7th, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Dingri County, Xigaze City, Tibet. As of 10:00 on January 8th, the earthquake has caused 126 deaths and 188 people have been injured to different extents.
Xigaze, Tibet, is an area targeted for assistance by Shanghai. After the earthquake, various resources in Shanghai have moved to support the disaster area. On the afternoon of January 8th, reporters from The Paper learned from relevant departments in Shanghai that all the officials aiding Tibet will be on duty to participate in rescue work in the disaster area. Currently, two teams of dozens of Shanghai medical experts have rushed to the earthquake zone and will immediately participate in rescue work upon arrival.
In terms of resources, Shanghai Food and Strategic Resources Reserve Administration has urgently coordinated and organized the allocation and transportation of related materials overnight. The first batch of 2,000 cold weather jackets, 2,000 quilts, and 2,000 sleeping bags were transported to the disaster area from Hongqiao Airport in the morning of the 8th. Additionally, 2,000 bottles of drinking water, 5,000 cartons of milk, and 10,000 instant noodles were directly delivered to Dingri County. The liaison group of city officials aiding Tibet and the Tibet office of the municipal government have collaborated with local authorities to receive and transfer the supplies.
