National Health Commission: Currently, respiratory infections among children are mainly caused by influenza viruses and Mycoplasma pneumonia.
The National Health Commission held a press conference today to introduce the relationship between the current solar terms and health. Wang Quan, a chief physician from Beijing Children’s Hospital, said that at present, the main causes of respiratory infections among children are still viruses and Mycoplasma pneumoniae, with viruses being predominantly influenza viruses. The main symptoms of childhood flu are fever, which may be accompanied by headache, muscle pain, and general discomfort. There may also be respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, and runny nose. Some children may have more pronounced gastrointestinal symptoms than adults, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and poor appetite. The majority of children infected with influenza viruses have an acute and self-limiting course of illness. Generally, they will have fever for 2-3 days and recover within a week. However, some children may have a longer-lasting cough, and some may feel fatigued and weak for a longer time.
The main treatment for influenza病毒感染 is antiviral therapy and targeted treatment. There are specific anti-influenza drugs available for children, which should be used as soon as possible under the guidance of a doctor, especially within 48 hours of onset. Antibiotics are not effective against influenza viruses. Targeted treatment mainly aims to reduce fever and alleviate discomfort. Parents can choose and use antipyretic drugs according to their children’s age and weight, and also use drugs to relieve symptoms such as cough and nasal congestion. In addition, parents are reminded to keep their children at home and rest instead of sending them to school while they are sick with flu.
