Shanghai Railway Station will adjust its route map from tomorrow: the number of additional trains will reach a new record in recent years and Shanghai South Railway Station will enter the “high-speed railway era”
Starting from 0:00 on January 5th, the national railways will implement the train operation diagram for the first quarter of 2025. After the diagram adjustment, Shanghai Railway Station has fully leveraged the new lines and channels, optimized the train operation structure, and increased the number of passenger trains to a record high in recent years. Shanghai South Railway Station has entered the “high-speed rail era”, and the hub station effect of Shanghai Songjiang Station has begun to emerge.
After the implementation of the new diagram, Shanghai South Railway Station plans to operate 118.5 pairs of trains, an increase of 31.7% compared to before. Among them, high-speed rail accounts for 60% of the total, mainly covering short-distance destinations such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Huangshan, as well as medium and long-distance directions such as Xiamen, Nanchang, Zhengzhou, and Changsha. To cater to the travel needs of passengers, the station has also retained 11 pairs of conventional trains for popular destinations such as Chongqing, Wuchang, Nanning, and Guangzhou. Shanghai South Railway Station has also added two new环线列车 products, the “big loop” G8387 train terminates at Shanghai Hongqiao Station, passing through popular tourist areas such as Huzhou, Qianjiang Lake, Huangshan, Jiuhua Mountain, Lujiang River, and Yangcheng Lake, with a total journey of about 1320 kilometers and a travel time of about 8.4 hours; the “small loop” G8981 train terminates at Shanghai Station, passing through cities such as Suzhou, Huzhou, Xuancheng, and Wuhu, with a total journey of about 770 kilometers and a travel time of about 5 hours.
In addition, the Jinshan Railway operates 38 pairs of trains daily, with an increase of 0.5 pairs compared to before. Among them, there are 20 pairs of Jinshan Railway trains operating between Shanghai South and Jinshanwei each day.
Shanghai Songjiang Station is the third largest hub station in Shanghai after Shanghai Hongqiao and Shanghai East Station. After its opening, it will further unclog Shanghai’s western channels, strengthen its connection with the railway network in the Yangtze River Delta, and the hub station effect has begun to emerge. After the implementation of the new diagram, Shanghai Songjiang Station plans to operate 95 pairs of trains, including 56.5 pairs of bullet trains. The station’s train services cover more than 20 provincial administrative regions including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, and Hubei. Passengers can take trains to Haikou in the south, Qiqihar in the north, and Lanzhou in the west. In addition, leveraging the newly opened Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi high-speed rail通道 capabilities and the location advantage of Shanghai South Station, there are 43 passenger trains operating between Shanghai Songjiang Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Station, and 20 trains operating between Shanghai Songjiang Station and Shanghai South Station, which cater to the needs of urban commuters with a maximum journey time of only 14 minutes.
With the opening of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi high-speed railway on December 26th, Shanghai’s external transport channels have been further expanded. Under the influence of factors such as the opening of Shanghai Songjiang Station and the upgrading of Shanghai South Station, the station has further optimized its train operation structure and increased passenger trains to a record high in recent years. This round of diagram adjustment involves adding 75.5 pairs of trains, with 46 pairs of passenger trains on the Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi high-speed railway being the most increased. In combination with the new Shanghai-Suzhou line connection, the station has added 25.5 pairs of high-speed trains to destinations such as Fuyang, Hengdian, and Xianju by leveraging the tourism resources along the Hangzhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway. Shanghai Hongqiao Station has added high-speed trains to Datong and Hohhot for the first time and transferred 31.5 pairs of trains to directions such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen, and Shenzhen from Shanghai South Station. Some trains have been rerouted via the Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi high-speed railway; for example, G7395 and G7635 trains that used to depart from Shanghai Hongqiao Station and needed to detour via Hangzhou are now changed to C3603 and C3607 respectively with travel time reduced by nearly an hour for both trains.
After implementing the new diagram, Shanghai Railway Station will closely monitor train operations and further optimize the train operation plan based on passenger travel demand to continuously improve travel convenience. Railway departments reminded passengers to check on the
