On November 15, a video was shared online by a netizen claiming that village officials in Zhongdong Village, Yandong Town, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, were dining and drinking during work hours, sparking widespread attention. In response to these allegations, local authorities released a statement on November 16, emphasizing that the matter is being taken seriously and that the discipline inspection commission has already intervened to conduct an investigation.

The video shows four men seated around a table having a meal, with what appears to be liquor bottles visible on the table, while a woman stands nearby. One of the men, noticing he was being filmed, gestures towards the window where the videographer is located. The caption accompanying the video read, “It’s Friday, and the village officials in Zhongdong Village are drinking at noon! Is this how village officials should behave during work hours?” The video quickly gained traction, leading to widespread discussion among netizens.

According to reports from @Da Wan News, Zhongdong Village is located in Yandong Town, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Following the video’s release, reporters contacted a staff member from Zhongdong Village using publicly available contact information. The staff member stated they were unaware of the situation and would investigate further. When the reporters reached out to the Yandong Town government, a representative confirmed that the matter had been reported to senior leadership and that an investigation was actively underway. If the situation is confirmed to be true, appropriate accountability measures would be implemented.

Subsequently, reporters obtained information from relevant departments within the Yandong Town government, which indicated that the town is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and has formally initiated an investigation. The discipline inspection commission is involved and conducting interviews. When asked whether the individuals in the video were village officials, the staff member acknowledged that while some were indeed village officials, not all of them were. “We will certainly investigate the matter honestly. This situation should absolutely not occur,” the staff member stated.

This incident highlights the need for accountability and adherence to professional standards among public officials to maintain public trust and integrity.
