2024 Shanghai Anti-Internet Violence Forum held on December 28th

On December 28th, the Shanghai Anti-Internet Violence Forum was held in Shanghai. This forum was guided by the Office of the Central Network Security and Information Technology Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and was hosted by the Shanghai Internet Industry Federation with support from The Paper and Beijing Da Cheng (Shanghai) Law Firm. This is the second time for Shanghai Anti-Internet Violence Forum to be held. This year’s forum focuses on the theme of “Combating Internet Violence, Restraining Aggression – Jointly Building an Upward and Positive Internet Space”. The forum consists of main sessions and sub-forums on network management and social responsibility, exploring the prevention of network violence and the construction of a clear online space through various perspectives.

姜迅, the president of Shanghai Internet Industry Federation, stated in his speech that for internet violence, it is necessary to mobilize social forces for comprehensive governance. This involves improving relevant laws and regulations, strict enforcement, as well as efforts from both netizens and platforms to shoulder common social responsibilities. Moreover, it is important to mobilize all social forces to jointly create and protect an upward and positive internet space.

The responsible person from the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Network Information Office pointed out in their keynote speech that after the implementation of the “Regulations on the Governance of Cyber Violence Information” in August this year, the network information department has fully performed its coordinating role, actively fulfilled its responsibilities, and worked with public security, culture and tourism departments to further improve the co-governance mechanism of cyber violence. This report systematically analyzes the causes, forms of expression, and hazards of internet violence, as well as mechanisms for its governance and new models for its control.

Additionally, the “Finance Truth-Seeking Platform” was officially launched at the forum. This platform was jointly established by the Shanghai Internet Industry Federation, Shanghai Securities News, and China Securities Network to improve the efficiency of handling and处置 complaints about enterprise infringement information and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises.

Furthermore, a public welfare promotional video against internet violence was released by the Shanghai Internet Industry Federation. They emphasized the importance of relying on media and platform power to combat internet violence according to law.

They emphasized the importance of effective management mechanisms and service delivery to protect enterprises and individuals from online harm.

Speakers from different industries shared their perspectives on how to balance emotional expression with rationality in online spaces.
