On December 17, 2024, the National Immigration Administration announced that it would extend the duration of transit visa-free stays for foreigners in China from the previous 72 hours and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days). It also added 21 ports of entry, bringing the total number of ports for transit visa-free entry and exit to 60. Foreigners with transit visas can now travel across provincial borders within the allowed stay areas in 24 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities).

The transit visa-free policy now applies to 24 provinces, including newly added ( Shanxi, Jiangxi, Anhui, Guizhou, Hainan) or expanded in nine provinces. The number of applicable ports has increased from 39 to 60, with an increase of 54%.
