The Supreme People’s Procuratorate is focusing on new issues arising from emerging industries, including supervising the prepared food sector and livestreaming sales activities.

On the morning of December 20, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate held a symposium to commemorate the tenth anniversary of public interest litigation. Zhang Xueqiao, the Deputy Chief Procurator, introduced at the meeting that the procuratorial authorities have consistently focused on the public’s expectations for a better life, safeguarding the well-being of the people through effective public interest litigation. In the field of ecological environment and resource protection, efforts have been intensified to address issues such as water pollution, water ecology, and drinking water safety concerning surface and underground water bodies like rivers, lakes, canals, and reservoirs. The focus has been on tackling pollution in major rivers, lakes, and urban and rural black and odorous water bodies, resulting in the handling of 539,000 public interest litigation cases, accounting for 48.96% of the total.

The Supreme People’s Procuratorate also reported that in the area of food and drug safety, it has guided local authorities to increase case handling efforts concerning food safety issues in farmers’ markets, supermarkets, and around schools, while actively responding to new challenges posed by emerging business models. This includes supervision of pre-prepared dishes, online dining, live-streaming sales, community group buying, false advertising in the medical beauty industry, and excessive medical treatment, leading to the handling of 201,000 cases.

In the field of production safety, in response to frequent accidents related to gas, elevators, fire safety, and transportation, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate has guided local authorities to solidly advance a large number of cases involving gas, construction projects, fire safety, mining, and hazardous chemicals.

Regarding personal information protection, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate has directed local authorities to focus on issues such as the leakage of personal information by express delivery services, medical institutions, and off-campus training organizations, as well as illegal collection and fraudulent use of personal information by internet companies, resulting in 20,949 cases being handled.

In the area of protecting the rights of specific groups, procuratorial authorities nationwide have continued to deepen the protection of the rights of minors, the elderly, women, people with disabilities, workers in new business models, and migrant workers, handling 8,735 cases. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate has deployed special supervision for the construction of barrier-free environments and has directly initiated cases concerning the adaptation of drug instructions for the elderly and the protection of delivery riders’ rights, significantly promoting human rights protection.
