After stepping down as the Secretary of the Tangshan Municipal Committee, Wu Weidong attended the Hebei Province Safety Production Work Conference.

According to the Hebei Daily client report, on December 19, a provincial safety production work meeting was held in Shijiazhuang. Ni Yuefeng, Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Committee and Director of the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee, emphasized at the meeting the importance of deeply studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on safety production work. He called for a resolute attitude and strong measures to strictly fulfill safety production responsibilities, comprehensively investigate and rectify risks and hidden dangers, and firmly prevent and curb major accidents, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property and the stability of society. Wang Zhengpu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor, attended the meeting.

The meeting was conducted via a video conference format, with sub-venues set up in various cities, Xiong’an New Area, and counties (cities, districts). Members of the Provincial Party Committee, leaders from the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee, Provincial Government, and Provincial Political Consultative Conference also participated in the meeting.

The report noted that Wu Weidong attended the safety production work meeting and was seated on the podium.

Public information shows that Wu Weidong, male, Han ethnicity, was born in October 1969 in Pingshan, Hebei. He joined the Communist Party of China in October 1991 and began working in August 1989. He graduated from the Central Party School’s in-service graduate program in economics and holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Hebei University of Science and Technology.

Wu Weidong has previously served as the Secretary of the Communist Youth League Shijiazhuang Municipal Committee, District Chief and District Party Secretary of Yuhua District in Shijiazhuang, Deputy Mayor of Handan, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Handan Municipal Party Committee and Deputy Mayor. In July 2013, he took up a new position in Zhangjiakou, where he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Party Committee, Executive Deputy Mayor, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, and Mayor.

In May 2021, Wu Weidong was appointed Secretary of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Party Committee. In November, he was promoted to a member of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee during the reshuffle of the Provincial Party Committee and continued to serve as Secretary of the Zhangjiakou Municipal Party Committee. During his tenure as Secretary, he also held positions such as Director of the Zhangjiakou Operations Center for the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee and Director of the Zhangjiakou Yunding Venue Group for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

In April 2022, Wu Weidong transitioned to serve as Secretary of the Tangshan Municipal Party Committee, a position he will no longer hold after November 2024.

After stepping down as Secretary of the Tangshan Municipal Party Committee, Wu Weidong visited the site of the National Energy Investment Group Hebei Company’s Liangcun Thermal Power Plant on November 27 to conduct research on air pollution prevention and control work.
