The second trial of the child trafficking case involving Yu Huaying will begin tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, the highly publicized case of Yu Huaying regarding child trafficking will undergo a retrial at the Guizhou Provincial High People’s Court.

Since Yu Huaying was arrested in June 2022, this will be her sixth court appearance. The numerous trials are due to the continuous uncovering of additional criminal facts during the hearings. On October 25, the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court noted in the retrial of the first instance that the number of children trafficked by Yu Huaying increased from 11 to 17, which will be a focal point in tomorrow’s trial.

Case Review
Since 1993, Yu Huaying and her accomplices have been involved in the trafficking of numerous children. In July 2022, Yu Huaying was criminally detained on suspicion of child trafficking. On September 18, 2023, the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court sentenced her to death for child trafficking, depriving her of political rights for life, to which Yu Huaying appealed. On November 28, 2023, the second instance trial of Yu Huaying’s child trafficking case was held. Following this trial, the prosecution discovered that there were unaddressed charges against Yu Huaying and suggested the case be sent back for retrial. On January 8, 2024, the Guizhou Provincial High People’s Court ruled to send Yu Huaying’s child trafficking case back for retrial. On October 11, 2024, the case was retried at the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court, where the number of children trafficked by Yu Huaying was revised from 11 to 17. On October 25, 2024, the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court once again determined that Yu Huaying’s criminal conduct was particularly severe with a significant social hazard, ruling her guilty of child trafficking, sentencing her to death, depriving her of political rights for life, and confiscating all personal property. Yu Huaying expressed her intention to appeal in court.
