Wu Cunrong, the Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, is under investigation. So far this year, 56 officials at the provincial and ministerial level have been investigated.
On December 16 at 4 PM, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced that Wu Cunrong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.
Public information shows that Wu Cunrong, male, Han ethnicity, was born in May 1963 in Wuwei, Anhui Province. He holds a master’s degree in business administration and is an engineer. He began his career in July 1985 and joined the Communist Party of China in September 1984.
Wu Cunrong worked in Anhui Province for many years, serving as the Director of the Anhui Provincial Water Resources Department, Mayor of Hefei, and Secretary of the Hefei Municipal Committee. In October 2011, he became a member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee while concurrently serving as Secretary of the Hefei Municipal Committee. In November 2016, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial Party Committee, Vice Governor, and Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Government Party Leadership Group.
In March 2017, Wu Cunrong was transferred to Chongqing, where he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Committee, Vice Mayor, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Government Party Leadership Group, and President of the Chongqing Administrative College. In January 2021, he became Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee, and in January 2022, he was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Congress.
In January 2023, Wu Cunrong was transferred to Shanxi Province as Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Shanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference, and subsequently elected as Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference.
Including Wu Cunrong, a total of 56 officials at the ministerial level have been publicly reported by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission for review and investigation this year.
