Zhou Wei has been appointed as the acting mayor of Changzhou City in Jiangsu Province, after previously serving as the head of Kunshan, known as the “strongest county-level city.”
According to the official WeChat account of the Organization Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee, the 21st meeting of the 17th Standing Committee of the Changzhou Municipal People’s Congress, held on December 14, decided to accept Sheng Lei’s request to resign from the position of Mayor of Changzhou. Zhou Wei was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Changzhou and Acting Mayor.
Public information shows that Zhou Wei was born in 1974 in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou. He previously held positions including Deputy Secretary-General of the Suzhou Municipal Government, member of the Standing Committee of the Kunshan Municipal Committee and Minister of the Organization Department, Director of the Suzhou Economic and Information Technology Commission, and Secretary-General of the Suzhou Municipal Government.
In September 2021, Zhou Wei was transferred to serve as the Secretary of the Kunshan Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, managing what is known as the “strongest county-level city.” In September 2023, Zhou Wei became a member of the Standing Committee of the Suzhou Municipal Committee while continuing to serve as Secretary of the Kunshan Municipal Committee.
Earlier this month, the Jiangsu Provincial Organization Department released a public notice regarding the nomination of leadership positions for provincial-level officials, which included Zhou Wei being proposed for the position of mayor of a municipal district. Prior to this, Sheng Lei, who served as the Deputy Secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor, had earlier taken up the position of Secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee.
