The Democratic Progressive Party authorities have altered the “Modern Chinese History” curriculum in military academies on the island, prompting a response from the Taiwan Affairs Office.

On the morning of December 11, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference in the news release hall, where spokesperson Zhu Fenglian answered reporters’ questions regarding recent cross-strait hot issues.

During the conference, a reporter asked about the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities’ request to remove the “Modern Chinese History” course from the general education curriculum of military academies in Taiwan, replacing it with “World History,” and reducing credits for related courses, including those on Sun Tzu’s Art of War. What was the comment on this?

In response, Zhu Fenglian pointed out that the DPP authorities, driven by their “Taiwan independence” nature, are vigorously promoting “de-Sinicization.” They previously introduced so-called “educational reforms” and “Taiwan independence” curricula, and now they are altering military academy courses, preventing students from learning about the history of the War of Resistance and the wisdom of ancient Chinese people. They are attempting to sever the historical and cultural ties between the two sides through various means, misleading the people of Taiwan and deceiving the youth into becoming cannon fodder for “Taiwan independence,” which requires heightened vigilance.

Zhu Fenglian stated that facts have proven and will continue to prove that any actions aimed at “de-Sinicization” cannot sever the historical connections between the two sides or the blood ties among compatriots, nor can they change the fact that Taiwan is a part of China. The DPP authorities’ regressive actions will inevitably face increasing opposition from more and more people in Taiwan.
