Taiwan Media: Renowned Writer Qiong Yao Passes Away at the Age of 86
According to multiple Taiwan media reports, renowned writer Qiong Yao passed away at her home in Danshui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, at around 1:22 PM on December 4th, at the age of 86, after taking her own life.
TVBS News cited the statement of Qiong Yao’s son, saying that his mother had left a suicide note and instructed her secretary to check on her at home during lunchtime. When the secretary entered Qiong Yao’s home in Danshui District, she was alarmed to find that Qiong Yao had already ended her life in her room. Although the secretary immediately called 119 for assistance, when the paramedics arrived at the scene, Qiong Yao had already stopped breathing and had no heartbeat, showing clear signs of death, so she was not transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Public records show that Qiong Yao, whose real name was Chen Zhe, was originally from Hengyang, Hunan. She was a well-known writer, screenwriter, film and television producer, and songwriter. Many of her novels have been adapted into movies or TV dramas, including the “Princess Huanzhu” trilogy, “A Dream of Red Mansions”, and the “Three Flowers” series – “Scarlet Heart”, “The Phantom Lover”, and “Water Margin” among others.
