Taiwan Media: Renowned Writer Qiong Yao Passes Away at the Age of 86
According to multiple Taiwan media reports, at approximately 13:22 on December 4th, renowned writer Qiong Yao passed away after taking her own life at her home in Danshui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. She was 86 years old.
TVBS News cited a statement from Qiong Yao’s son, saying that his mother had left a suicide note and instructed her secretary to come home and check on her at noon. When the secretary entered Qiong Yao’s home in Danshui District, she realized something was wrong and found that Qiong Yao had ended her life in her room. Although the secretary immediately called 119 for assistance, when paramedics arrived at the scene, Qiong Yao had already lost her breath and heartbeat, showing clear signs of death, and was therefore not transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Public records show that Qiong Yao, whose real name was Chen Zhe, was originally from Hengyang, Hunan. She was a well-known writer, screenwriter, film and television producer, and lyricist. Many of her novels have been adapted into movies or TV dramas, including the “Princess Huanzhu” trilogy, “A Dream of Red Mansions”, and the “Three Stories of Plum Blossom” series – “Scarlet Plum Blossom”, “The Spirit of the Ghost Husband”, “Between Water and Cloud” and others.
